MESSAGE FROM THE CAPTAIN.            I would like to thank all our members who participated in the team shoot Saturday. From the setting up of the range to the end of competition, everybody excelled and should be proud of their performance.         Team 1 performed rock solidly and are now leading Div.1 by 5 points. Team 2 is in equal second place in Div. 2 on points and only third by 1 centre.       No one should feel that they had a bad day! Well done to all.      A special mention and thank you to Gavin and Stacey Day, who are brand new members of the club and are looking forward to competing regularly. On Saturday, Dave Clarke could not attend, leaving a team spot open. Stacey agreed to take part and with Barry Kalleske’s gear, shot 56.3, 57.4, which I thought was an outstanding effort for her first ever shoot with the club. Gavin and Stacey have been very thorough in preparing for their membership and also many thanks to Pete Larsen for his help and advice in setting up their rifle for competition and I look forward to them both having a very enjoyable future with Kapunda Rifle Club. Kind Regards to all, Captain Les.

What was predicted to be a rainy day at Maitland turned out to be fine with scattered clouds however the rain from the previous days had done its work and made both of the roads (McCauley’s Road and Rifle Range Road) nearly impassable. There were reports that some vehicles had become bogged on Rifle Range Road and had to be dragged out.

A total of 43 attended the day with Kapunda fielding 15 shooters, plus coaches. As shooting got underway it became evident that there were problems developing in the new electronic scoring systems. The Maitland crew were on it though, replacing components, and trekking to the butts.

However, after all of the hickups, we managed to finish the day with Division 1 just 7 points behind Wallaroo and in Division 2 Kapunda 3 team is just 6 points behind Wallaroo 2. Kapunda 2 team scored 362.17 for the day.

Elijah Hoerisch draws special mention scoring 36.1 in the first round followed by 39.3 on his second presentation despite the help from his grandfather.

The wind coached performed well but Peter Larsen was heard to say that T/R coaching is harder than F Class as you have to think slightly ahead when coaching to allow the shooter time to aim and fire.

Cohen Ziersch posted a commendable 93.7 and Jim Papageorgiou a 91.6 on his first outing, with Captain Eddy Kanik top in F Standard posting 94.5.

All in all it was a good day but all eyes were looking skyward for any signs of rain and a majority of shooters left early so that they had time to get down the roads while it was still light and rain free; also to get to the local car washing facility so that they could take up their position before the lines got too long.

A “thank you” to all the Kapunda members that attended and faced the terrible condition of the roads. We will be off to Wallaroo on the 20th October to compete at 500 yards.”

Stage I     Wallaroo 500 yards Saturday 2nd September 2017

Captains rundown.  Although we did not win outright in any areas, our performance was very solid for an away game shoot and scores are good enough to place us within easy reach of the other teams.

  • The positive attitude and flexibility displayed by both our coaches and shooters was great to witness and made the day enjoyable for all those attending from Kapunda.
  • Thank you, to the people who did stints in the butts and helped with the scoring. It makes the team run efficiently and helps with the whole positive feel about our team shooting at Kapunda.
  • Big thanks to the coaches, Peter Larsen all day in the chair for F class shooters, with Butch John and Dave guiding the TR guys to a good performance. John doing a very good job at this, so Butch can ease up, just use the one gun and keep scoring possibles.
  • On the day of the shoot the scores we shot were very good and two of the most pleasing events for KRC was the “possibles” scored by both our most senior and junior members. Well done Jade and Butch. Will Andy ever hear the last of it?
  • So next shoot at Maitland 600 yards, and usually a harder day for high scores.
  • Get ready for Maitland early, same teams if you are available, (with new brass for some).

Steve Smithson KRC Captain
